Mechanism of Action
Atarax (hydroxyzine hydrochloride) is an oral drug which is rapidly absorbed from the gastro-intestinal tract. Atarax produces therapeutic effect within 30 minutes of intake.
Hydroxyzine HCL is a potent histamine H1 receptor reverse antagonist. It blocks the activity of histamine in the body. Histamine is a naturally produced substance by the body in response to an irritant (allergen) leading to an allergic reaction.
hydroxyzine hydrochloride also acts as 5-HT2A, and as alpha adrenergic receptor antagonist. hydroxyzine hydrochloride’s antiserotogenic effects make it an effective anxiolytic (anti-anxiety).
Uses of Hydroxyzine Hydrochloride Tablets
Hydroxyzine hydrochloride is used for the treatment of allergic conditions like chronic utricaria, atopic or contact dermatoses, and histamine-mediated pruritus.
Hydroxyzine HCL tablets are prescribed for the treatment of general anxiety disorders.
Atarax tablets are used in pre-operative sedation, and in treatment of neurological disorders, like psychoneurosis, and other anxiety/tension states.
